Years of Dirt and Algae Buildup
Michelle’s driveway and front walkway in Hamburg had turned noticeably dark after years of dirt, algae, and general buildup settling into the concrete. Shaded sections of the driveway stayed damp longer after rain, which gave algae room to spread, and the walkway connecting it to the house had picked up the same discoloration from foot traffic and weather exposure.
What We Did
Inspect the Surface
We inspected the driveway and walkway first to see where the buildup was heaviest and where algae had taken hold in the shaded areas.
Apply and Dwell the Cleaning Solution
We applied a cleaning solution and let it dwell so it could break down the embedded grime before any pressure washing began. Skipping this step is a common reason driveway stains fade instead of actually lifting.
Surface Clean and Hand Detail
For the open sections of the driveway, we used a circular surface cleaner. It keeps pressure even across the whole area, so the finished concrete looks uniform instead of streaky. We hand detailed the edges, the area near the garage, and the walkway with a wand to reach the spots a surface cleaner can’t cover cleanly.
Final Rinse and Walkthrough
A final rinse cleared the loosened residue, and we walked the property to check the results before finishing the job.
The Result
The dark buildup on both the driveway and the walkway came off, leaving the concrete brighter and more consistent in color. Since the driveway and walkway are usually the first thing anyone sees pulling up to a home, the difference showed right away.
