Pool Deck Cleaning in Lexington, KY
Pool deck cleaning in Lexington means washing the concrete, pavers, or stone around a pool to remove algae, mildew, and tree stains. Lexington’s humid summers and shade from tall trees keep decks damp, and a damp deck grows a slippery film fast. We clean home pool decks and community pool decks, and we plan each visit around swim days. For decks that share a slab with a patio, see our patio cleaning service. Here’s how pool deck work goes.
- Typical cost: $250 to $600 for most home pool decks, and community pool decks are quoted by the square foot after a walkthrough
- Method: a sodium hypochlorite cleaning solution at low pressure on pavers and stone, and a surface cleaner on open concrete
- How often: once a year for most pool decks, and twice a year where trees shade the deck
- Guarantee: 30 days, and we clean the deck again at no charge if buildup returns
Why Do Lexington Pool Decks Turn Green and Slippery?
Lexington pool decks turn green and slippery because splash water, shade, and falling leaves keep the surface damp, and algae and mildew grow on damp concrete. Read how the growth works and why it returns in our algae guide. Pollen and sunscreen film settle on the deck and feed the growth too.
A slick deck is a safety problem, because bare feet and wet algae are a bad mix, so it’s worth cleaning before the first pool party. Lexington’s freeze and thaw winters also open small cracks in concrete, and cracks hold water that feeds more growth. Leaf stains from oak and maple trees need their own treatment, which we cover below. For other problems, see our Lexington exterior problems guide, including how to tell which one you have.
What Types of Pool Decks Do We Clean?
We clean concrete, stamped concrete, paver, and natural stone pool decks, and each material gets its own method.
Deck type | How we clean it |
Broom-finish concrete | A surface cleaner lifts algae and dirt from the textured finish, then a rinse clears the grooves. |
Stamped and colored concrete | Low pressure and a soft wash protect the pattern and the color, because high pressure can dull the surface. |
Pavers | A surface cleaner works the paver faces, and a gentle rinse near the joints protects the sand. Re-sanding is available as an add-on. |
Rust spots near ladders and furniture | A rust remover made for the material lifts rust from metal ladders and furniture legs. See our guide on rust stain removal. |
Natural stone and travertine | Low pressure and a mild cleaning solution protect softer stone, which can etch if it’s over-cleaned. |
Community and apartment pool decks | Large slabs get a surface cleaner, and we won’t book the work during open swim hours. |
Will the Cleaning Solution Get Into the Pool Water?
The cleaning solution stays out of the pool water because we aim spray and runoff away from the pool and rinse loose debris toward the yard or the deck drains.
The solution we use is built on sodium hypochlorite, the same active ingredient as liquid pool chlorine, so a stray drop isn’t likely to upset the water. We still keep soap and degreasers away from the pool edge, because they can foam and cloud the water.
We suggest booking your pool service for the day after our visit, so they can skim and vacuum any debris that’s reached the water and test the chemistry. That one extra visit leaves you with a clean deck and clean water together.
Can Cleaning Remove Rust and Tree Stains From a Pool Deck?
Cleaning can remove most tree and leaf stains from a pool deck, and a rust remover can lift rust from metal ladders and furniture legs. Leaf stains come from tannins in oak, maple, and other leaves that sit on a damp deck, and fresh stains lift easier than old ones.
Rust spots need a different product than algae, so we treat them as a separate step with a rust remover made for concrete, brick, and stone. Old stains that soaked deep may only fade.
Sealed or etched stains are the exception. If a stain sits under a sealer or has etched into soft stone, cleaning may lighten it but can’t always erase it, and we’ll tell you that during the estimate.
How Does Cleaning Work for Community and HOA Pool Decks?
A community pool deck gets cleaned while the pool is closed, and the price is set by the square foot after a walkthrough. The county health department lists 322 public swimming pools in Fayette County, and Kentucky’s public pool rule, 902 KAR 10:120, says decks shall be kept clean. Operators should check the current version of the rule.
Public pools have their own inspection and closure rules, so we ask the operator which hours and closures apply before we quote.
Community decks also get a photo report of the finished work, and we’ll send a certificate of insurance on request.
What Happens to Plants and Pool Furniture During the Wash?
Plants and pool furniture stay protected because furniture is moved off the deck and plants are soaked first. Sodium hypochlorite is the same active ingredient as household bleach, and full-strength bleach can burn leaves and fade cushions, so we mix it down to a controlled strength.
Plants and grass beside the deck get soaked with plain water before we start, delicate beds get covered, and everything gets a final rinse. Our guide to grass, plants, and pets covers every step we take around landscaping. Kids and pets should stay off the deck until it’s rinsed and dry.
How Often Should a Lexington Pool Deck Be Cleaned?
A Lexington pool deck should be cleaned once a year, and twice a year where trees shade it. Late spring before the pool opens is the best time, so the deck is clean for the whole swim season. A second visit after the leaves fall removes tannin stains before winter freeze and thaw weather makes them harder to lift.
Light growth lifts quickly, and heavy buildup that sat all season takes extra passes, which is why a yearly visit is easier on the budget. To pick the best month, read our scheduling guide.
Our Process for Pool Deck Cleaning
Walkthrough and Prep

Clear and Protect
You move cushions and loose items, we pre-soak the plants, and we set up so spray and runoff stay away from the pool.
Clean the Deck
Concrete gets a surface cleaner, and pavers and stone get a low-pressure soft wash with a sodium hypochlorite solution.
Rinse & Check
We rinse the whole deck until it’s clean for bare feet, then check the edges and drains for leftover debris.
